In today's turbulent society, there is an urgent demand for designers to delve into the realm of social design. Negligent design has not just contributed to overconsumption and waste; it has contributed to systems and services that cater to the most privileged and neglect the most marginalised.

We have a responsibility to design consciously. For me, that means maximising inclusivity, accessibility and belonging. It means innovating with a purpose and generating moments of joy wherever possible.

Over the course of my career, I have focused on projects that reflect these aims. This has led to working with patients with chronic conditions, people with disabilities, asylum-seekers, primary school children, and healthcare workers in remote, low-resource clinics.

Well-designed systems and products give people autonomy, increase their independence and create environments we all feel welcome in. Agency comes from opportunity, and designers have the platform to provide that opportunity.
